It Is Well With My Soul

20090923_66

"But, Lord, ’tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh, trump of the angel! Oh, voice of the Lord!
Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul!"

From "It Is Well With My Soul" by Horatio Gates Spafford

Complete Lyrics.

Story behind the hymn.

Check out That's Baloney for other pairings.

For a 'crusty gas guy' hoe matched eloquent poetry with a beautiful photo!

did you know horatio penned the lyrics after finding out his wife and all his children - i think there were five - drowned in an accident at sea? i love this song, and never get tired of reading the lyrics born of such unthinkable tragedy.
